Hudson Commons at 441 9th Avenue
The 25-story Hudson Commons is an adaptive reuse of a former 8-story warehouse originally constructed in 1962. By adding 17 stories of rentable floors above, the existing building was transformed into a new office building in the heart of the popular Hudson Yards and Penn Station areas in New York City.
MRCE relied heavily on our knowledge of geotechnical engineering and geology to aid the developer in finding the solution to increased loads on the original foundation. Ultimately, MRCE was able to reuse or supplement the existing foundations to support the new addition which resulted in substantial foundation schedule and cost savings.
Interesting Facts
- By reusing the original building, the Developer received a modern office building that was much larger and at a much more reasonable cost than constructing a new building.
