The Spiral at 66 Hudson Boulevard
The Spiral is a 65-floor class-A office tower with a deep basement that offers 2.85 million square feet of sustainable office space in Midtown West, adjacent to the High Line and Hudson Yards. BIG Architects designed this super-tall building with open floor plans to take advantage of the beautiful New York City views. Challenges included working within a congested urban area, next to existing buildings and subways. Approval of the investigation and construction were required from New York City Transit and MTA Capital Construction.
MRCE provided geotechnical and structural foundation engineering service, including obtaining required approvals, implementing a geotechnical investigation, designing a complex excavation support system, performing condition surveys and vibration monitoring of adjacent buildings and subway entrances, and special inspections for excavation support and foundation construction.
